HEDGEHOG OWNER'S CHECK LIST

ALL of the following items are absolutely necessary for keeping a healthy hedgehog.

 

• Cage or Enclosure with a solid bottom and sides – 36”x18” minimum size.(Ware manufacturing Home Sweet Home Pet Cage for Small Animals – Colors may vary

• Digital Thermometer with wire lead for inside/outside temperature

• Heat Lamp/Ceramic Heat Emitter (150W) that is adequate for heating the enclosure you plan to use ($10.00)

• Fluker’s Clamp Lamp (8.5”) with switch  

• Zilla Temperature Controller (amazon/ebay, $22.00

• Bedding (Kiln Dried Pine shavings, Aspen Shavings or Pine Pellets)

• Plastic Cat Litter Tray

• Small Plastic Sand/Litter Scoop (for spot cleaning)

• 12 inch Wheel with a solid running surface. 

• Plastic Hide large enough for the hedgehog to comfortably move around in (we suggest 12 inch), we prefer big fleece snuggle sacks to plastic hide outs (they will keep your hedgehog warm and cozy).

• Few Toys like plastic cat sound  balls  (Hedgehog love them madly!)

• Food Bowl preferably shallow and very heavy.

• Water Bottle 8 oz. or larger. (We prefer to use 32 oz bottle ) 

• Dry Cat  Food of a good quality and no artificial preservatives 

• LIVE Insects mealworms (hedgehog’s favorite), wax worms and young crickets are suitable.  Never freeze-dried.  Never yard-caught. 

• Plastic Tweezers ( to pick up mealworms)

• Digital Scale (Sensitive)- Weighmax Electronic Kitchen Scale - Weighmax 2810-2KG black or GDEALER Digital Kitchen Scale 11lb/5kg Accuracy Food Scale Multifunction Kitchen Scale with Bowl, Stainless Steel.

• Oatmeal Shampoo or body wash  for sensitive skin ( Aveeno baby wash)

• Soft Tooth Brush (works like a sponge for washing the hedgehog)

• Plastic Bath tub (  7.5 gl utility bucket)  

• Nail Clippers for small animals (Cuticle clippers work the best)

• Small Bath Towel

• Disinfectant Spray   ( to properly clean and disinfect hedgehog cage) . 

• Glad Press’n Seal Wrap (for the wheel to keep it clean and fresh every day ).

• Carry (Transportation) Bag
